World War II history museum to be demolished illegally?

Anton Astapovich, the chairman of the Belarusian Society for Protection of History and Culture Heritage on December 18 appealed to the Ministry of Culture, the Council of Ministers and the Office of the Prosecutor General, expressing concerns that the building of the Belarusian State Museum of the World War II History was crossed out of the list of the state register of history and culture heritage items. According to the hisorian, the decision confronts with paragraph 3 in the Article 28 in the Law on Protection of History and Culture Heritage Items, dated January 9, 2006.

The Belapan news agency reports the building of the museum is a national history and cultural heritage. it can be legally demolished only by a government resolution in cases of catastrophes, combat action or natural calamities.

The demolition of the building is jusitified by investors by the need to built a multi-storey hotel Kampinski on the site of the museum in downtown Minsk.
