The World Bank has committed a loan worth 100 million euros to fund a project, which aims to modernize the higher education system in Belarus. The decision was approved by the World Bank's Board of Directors on 21 May, reports the press office of the World Bank.

The project covers 18 Belarusian universities, which will be modernized and equipped with up-to-date lab and research equipment. Several universities will see their buildings and campuses overhauled or reconstructed.

"During the project implementation in 2020-2025, better-quality conditions for education will be created annually for nearly 300 000 students and professors. This is intellectual capital, which will ensure the transformation of the resources-based economy into the economy of knowledge," World Bank's Country Manager for Belarus Alex Kremer commented in his statement on the loan approval.
