Traders from Belarus buy out products in Smolensk region

Entrepreneurs from Belarus are buying out the imported electronics and household devices, garments and foodstuffs from wholesale markets in Russia's Smolensk region, reports Rossiyskaya Gazeta. The Smolensk region -- Russia's major "western gateway" -- borders with the Vitsebsk and Mahilyou regions of Belarus. In early 90s, many were involved in the so called 'shuttle trade', when everything was bought out in the Belarusian shops (from bread to mini-tractors) and sold in Russia.

Currently, the flow has taken the opposite direction. It has become more profitable for Belarusians to buy such foodstuffs like frying oils, pasta, eggs, mayonnaise, cerea from across the non-existant border with Russia.
