Today is Orthodox Pentecost

The Orthodox Church celebrates Pentecost this Sunday. It is one of the 12 Great Feasts of the church year. It is celebrated on the 50th day after Easter Sunday. Believers decorate churches and their houses with fresh branches of green trees which symbolizes new life. The holiday of Pentecost praises God in its three faces – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. It reminds that the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles on the 50th day after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It was sent to enlighten souls.

The day of Pentecost is also called the birthday of the Christian Church. The Trinity Saturday is celebrated in the eve of Pentecost. People commemorate the dead on the day. The Day of the Holy Spirit is celebrated on the Monday following Pentecost.
