Belarusian Victoria Azarenka survived Japanese youngster Risa Azaki (74) by saving three match points in three sets at the Mallorca Open. She was just a game from defeat in her first match since the 2016 French Open before play was haulted due to darkness on Tuesday.

Upon resumption on Wednesday, Vika saved three match points to claim a thrilling victory 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7).

Azarenka gave birth to baby boy Leo in late 2016. Initially, she planned to return to tennis in early 2018 but decided to move her planned comeback ahead of schedule.

Up next for Vika is Croatian youngster Ana Konjuh, who knocked out Ons Jabeur in her opening round match.

The Mallorca Open prize fund is $250 thousand.
