Teacher and student take bribes but only teacher gets imprisoned

A Vitsebsk student passed others’ bribes for credits and term papers to his teacher for a year. He made 350 thousands on it and then complained to the police about the teacher.
It turned out that the bribes accepted by that teacher of Vitsebsk Veterinary Academy were rather small. For example a credit in “Operative Surgery” cost from 25 to 40 thousand roubles and a positive mark for a term paper cost about 140 thousands. Four cases of bribe-taking from students were proved during the trial.

The teacher used a go-between for passing the money – a student of the academy. He paid him 5 thousands for every deal. Maybe the sum could no longer satisfy the student or maybe there were other reasons and the student sent a complaint to the police. The go-between was not punished due to his voluntary confession and the teacher was sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment and confiscation of his property.

Vitsebsk Kastrychnistki District Office of the Public Prosecutor has ordered to begin a stricter struggle with bribery in Veterinary Academy. There is a special complaint box installed in the higher educational institution now.

Despite of these actions, cases of bribery are still being registered in Vitsebsk higher educational institutions. Trials take place from time to time but they do not seem to scare risky teachers. For example, a teacher from Navapolatsk stood trial for bribery last year. He “helped” a student to pass exams for 150 dollars. A student who paid 1 million roubles could get all marks without actually coming to exams and credits at the end of the term.  Term papers and tests were charged for an additional fee.  The system worked until the office of the public prosecutor started a case against that teacher.
