Syarhei Kavalenka released from jail after 10-day hunger strike

A Vitsebsk opposition member Syarhei Kavalenka was released from the confinement cell on July 18. Radio “Liberty” informs that Kavalenka has stopped the hunger strike he started 10 days ago. He protested against the detentions and verdicts he considered unfair.

Let us remind you that he was detained and taken into custody on the eve of the opening ceremony of the festival “Slavonic Bazaar”.  A report about violating the terms of being on probation was drawn up. He was put on probation in May. Syarhei was sentenced to three years on probation for having hoisted a white-red-white flag on the New Year’s Tree and disobedience to the police during the detention.
