Swine flu medicine hardly available outside Minsk

It is almsot impossible to buy swine flu medicine all over Belarus, except for Minsk.
An employee with the Information Center, which keeps stock of medicines available at drug stores in the Brest region, said that there were only a few packs of Tamiflu at the warehouse, but the drug was not available at drug stores.

A pack of Tamiflu costs 90,000 rubels and cheaper versions will be only available at hospital pharmacies, said an official with the Pharmacyya company, which runs most of Brest's drug stores.

In Hrodna, Tamiflu was on sale at only one of the city's 39 drug stores.

Two swine flu cases have already been reported in Poland, which borders on Belarus.

ERB correspondents have not found drugs that can treat swine flu in the town of Masty, Hrodna region, and in Vitsyebsk.

Called by ERB, a state drug store worker in Mahilyou was especially alarmed on hearing a request for swine flu drugs. "Do you have swine flu? We must report every case to the sanitary service. Give us your address immediately. You should be isolated and admitted to hospital, as well as those who had contact with you," the pharmacist said.

She said the drug store had no swine flu medicines, only anti-viral drugs.

In Minsk, Tamiflu is available almost in every pharmacy.
