Supreme Court asks Ministry of Justice to translate documents into Belasrauin

The Supreme Court of Belarus has started considering the complaint of a group of human rights defenders about the actions of the Ministry за Justice that forbade to register a human rights defending organization “Vyasna”. At the beginning of the hearing Ales Byalyatski claimed he was indignant at the fact that the Ministry of Justice replied “Vyasna” in Russian although the appeal for registration had been composed in Belarusian.

The appeal of Byalyatski who asked to translate the documents and continue the hearing in Belarusian was supported by human rights defenders Valyantsіn Stefanovіch and Uladzіmіr Labkovіch. A representative of the Ministry of Justice and the prosecutor were against it.

A human rights defender Uladzіmіr Labkovіch informed ERB about the attitude of the judge:

“However, the judge satisfied our appeal and obliged the Ministry of Justice to translate the refusal to register the organization into Belarusian till 5 p.m. She also said that the process will continue in Belarusian and put it off for October 25”.
