Students to get 28 thousand BRB instead of differential rate
The project of categorical assistance resembles a top-secret document officials are forbidden to comment on. Students will be deprived of differential rate for public transport tickets in four months. Those who are lucky will get categorical assistance. A commission of representatives of different Ministries is working on the project of the order. Almost all of them refuse to give any comments.
“At the moment we are forbidden to share this information. We used to give comments at the beginning but then we were asked not to do it.
We will be giving comments and explanations when the President signs the order in December. At the moment we do not know what the order will be like”.
However, ERB managed to find out some details: the first variant of the law suggested a monthly compensation of 28 thousand BRB for students. But not all officials agreed that the idea was good. The trade union demanded to increase the sum because it could only be enough to buy a monthly ticket for one kind of public transport (it costs 22 thousands). The rest of the money would not even be enough to visit parents if they live in another city. We asked one of members of the Belarusian Trade Union of Education and Science about the project.
“Some ways of compensation for the loss of the differential rate are mentioned there. It is still not decided what the assistance will be like and how much money will be given to students”.
At first the categorical assistance was to be given to students from families with the income equal to the living wage, and then the term was changed to 2 living wages per person in a family. The Ministry of Social protection noted that students who go to school in their Jeeps will not get any categorical assistance.
“Only those who really need help will get it. Some students arrive to school in Jeeps while others come from families with many children living in the country. Their parents earn 200-300 thousands – we will help them”.
One more interesting question is who will be paying out the categorical assistance.
