Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day marked in Czechia and Slovakia

The Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day is marked in Czechia and Slovakia on November 17. The so-called Velvet Revolution was caused by a mass student demonstration organized in the centre of Prague 20 years ago. It led to the downfall of the totalitarian regime in Czechoslovakia. RIA “Novosti” informs that a manifestation of participants of the events dating back to 1989 has taken place in Prague streets today. Leaders of the country and civil representatives put wreaths and flowers in the place of the memorable events.

The holiday is celebrates in a more moderate way in Slovakia. Expositions of documents and photos are organized; concerts and meetings with participants of the events are taking place.
