State lawyers advise the detained to answer all questions
A press conference dedicated to the problems of detention of democratic activists has taken place in Minsk today. Human rights activists Valyantsin Stefanovich and Ales Byalyatski and the relatives of the people detained by KGB and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs over the past few days addressed the present.
It was informed that all the detained in the confinement cell in Akrestsina Street had received parcels. Stefanovich doubts that they will receive the needed legal assistance. According to him, state lawyers offered by the police simply advise the detained to answer all questions. They explain that “they may be let off after that”.
Connections between the detained and the activities of the “White Legion” organization were discussed during the press conference. The present agreed that the explosion was being used as a reason for starting a case against the organization the authorities had been harbouring a grudge against since the end of the 1990s.
