State Control Committee, like KGB, to protect national security
The State Control Committee of Belarus acquires the same functions as State Security Committee under August 15 decree No 15 signed by Lukashenka.
The State Control Committee (SCC) is empowered to suspend or even close down any business entity, Yezhednevnik reports.
SCC was previosuly to monitor the operation of business entities with regard to customer rights laws, life safety, environmental protection and economic interests of the state.
The situation will change now. SCC will also supervise the national security. It means that the Committee will be able to suspend and stop the production of goods (rendering of services) if it considers that this actovoty violates the national security legislation. If any violation of the kind is revealed, SCC will be able to close down any business entity.
Supervisors have been given the right to paralyze the work of any business entity if they think that its activities are violating the law and posing a threat to the national security. It is worth noting that even journalists’ work is considered such a threat in Belarus. It means that SCC will be able to close down any media outlet or publishing house that printed journalists’ photo albums without any warning.
