Stalinism victims remembered in Minsk

A tradition commemoration of Stalinism victims yesterday took place at the Chalyuskintsy Park in Minsk and in Kurapaty. The event was organized by youth activists, former Gulag prisoners and members of the Memorial branch at the Belarusia Society for Protection of History and Cultural Heritage.
The participants laid flowers on memorial signs, lit candles and held a moment of silence to remember innocent people who were executed by Stalin's secret police.

Such actions take place every month, beginning from December 2006. Organizers say the events will be taking place unless the government recognizes October 29 as the Remembrance Day in Belarus. In the night of October 30, 1937, the Soviet secret police executed over 100 famous intellectuals in Minsk alone.
