Special police troops catch opposition member at “Okean Elzy”’s concert in Hrodna
Alyaksandr Shumkevich, one of the leaders of a youth affiliate of the United Democratic Party – “Young Democrats” got severely beaten by special police troops at a concert of “Okean Elzy” organized by a cellular communication operator “Velcom” in Hrodna on Saturday, July 28. Policemen broke his arm.
The incident took place 15 minutes before the end of the concert when several youth activists raised a white-red-white flag over the crowd.
Several men approached Shumkevich from behind. Policemen and people in plain clothes were among them. They dragged him out of the crowd and broke his arm.
Then he was delivered to Leninski District Department of the interior and left in the confinement cell. On the next day Shumkevich asked for medical care. Doctors arrived at the confinement cell, discovered a fracture and took the activist to hospital.
They put his arm in plaster and then he was released. Shumkevich is going to complain about the actions of the police. He is planning to go through a check-up at Minsk legal medicine bureau.
