Senators McCain and Lieberman: Sanctions should go ahead

United States Senators John McCain and Joseph Lieberman have met the Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė in Vilnius today. The Belarusian issue was also discussed at the meeting. Senator McCain refused to tell his opinion about Grybauskaitė’s “Belarusian policy” to journalists. Answering the question whether Lithuania was too tolerant, McCain said: “We all support stricter measures as regards Belarus but I cannot criticize the policy of the government and President elected by free election”.

The senator thinks that the USA will take on the leadership “in imposing sanctions on the dictatorship and the corrupt regime in Minsk”.
"We appreciate the steps made by the EU in the sphere of visa sanctions but we think that it is necessary to go ahead and use economic and energy instruments”, - McCain’s colleague Lieberman supported him, reports DELFI.
