Second floor of House of Literati is given to “Belaya Rus”

Companies that used to occupy offices there were made to leave without conclusion of any contracts. It became clear after the head of BNF Lyavon Barshcheuski received a reply to his and Vintsuk Vuachorka’s letter sent to the head of “Belaya Rus” Alyaksandr Radzkou. The organization’s legal address was on the envelope – Belaya Rus, Frunze Street, 5-205, Minsk.
Lyavon Barshcheuskі: “There is no address or anything in the paper. There is only a hand-written inscription: Frunze Street, 5, room 205”.

The head of the Union of Belarusian Writers and the head of the Literary Fund Ales Pashkevich says that the Literary Fund has already been made to leave the building regardless of prepayment:

“They have not concluded a contract with us. The Literary Fund was made to leave regardless of prepayment. It happened to all organizations on the second floor, none of the contracts was prolonged. All companies and civil associations having offices there were made to leave. According to employees of the building, the whole second floor will be occupied by “Belaya Rus”.

The only organization that may be allowed to stay is Göte Institute. It occupies the ground floor but one of its offices is situated on the second floor, says Ales Pashkevich:

“Göte Institute is situated on the ground floor. They occupy one room on the second floor but they will be allowed to keep it for some time”.

Employees of the Institute refused to give us any information explaining it by the fact they did not have the right to comment on it.

The head of Minsk affiliate of “Belaya Rus” Mihail Batura confirmed that the organization’s legal address was Frunze Street, 5 but added that they had not moved to the new building yet because “repairs were in process there”:

“Yes, Frunze Street, 5. Repairs are being conducted there so I cannot tell you the exact date”.

Mihail Batura does not know how much space the organization will occupy. According to him, the city affiliate will receive one room:

“One office for me, for our city organization, 23 metres”.

Interestingly, the administration of the House of Literati assures that they do not know anything about the arrival of “Belaya Rus”. According to the superintendent, they have not allocated any rooms for the organization:

“We have not allocated anything to “Belaya Rus” yet. None of them has visited me yet. I’m unaware of the fact that their legal address is Frunze Street, 5”.

An ERB reporter entered building 5 in Frunze Street. All the 10 rooms on the second floor were closed regardless it was a workday.  The corridor was empty and there were no doorplates…
