Russian neo-fascists threaten to massacre Miron

Four Vitsebsk members of the opposition have received letters containing threats.
Unknown people threaten independent civil activists Barys Hamaida and Syarhei Kavalenka and BNF members Yan Taupyha and Yan Dzyarzhautsau on behalf of an unregistered organization “Russian National Unity”.

The letters were sent by post and arrived to the activists’ home addresses on Friday. The neo-fascists addressed each activist as “Miron” and threatened to massacre them if at least one white-red-white flag appeared in Vitsebsk.

Yan Dzyarzhautsau turned to the Office of Public Prosecutor today. He considers the threat to be an attempt at his life. Yan Taupyha is also going to complain to the police.

A UCP activist Alena Zalesskaya, the head of the literary department of the “Lyalka” theatre Victoria Dashkevich and the editorial staff of an independent newspaper “Vitsebski Kurjer” received letters with threats from RNU last year.

According to Uladzimir Bazan, who was the editor-in-chief of “Vitsebski Kurjer” at that time, the police refused to start a criminal case.

Policemen explained Mr. Bazan that the threats had been pronounced on behalf of an organization that was not officially registered in Belarus and therefore did not exist.
