Russian foreign minister explains why Russia needs an airbase in Belarus
Russia's foreign policy chief Sergei Lavrov says that possible deployment of a Russian airbase in Belarus has nothing to do with anti-missile defense.
"From a purely military point of view, the air force as it is being discussed between Russia and Belarus has nothing to do with the anti-missile defense system," Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov is quoted by Russian news agency RIA Novosti as responding to journalists.
According to the head of the Russian diplomacy, there are other means to neutralize the ballistic missile threat.
