Russian airbase to be located in Lida, Belarus

Head of the Russian Air Forces General-Leutenant Victor Bondarev has made such statement. According to him, setting up an airbase in Belarus is fulfillment of the "intergovernmental agreement on strengthening the military component of the Union State."

The Belarusian side should deal with the airbase's equipment, the Russians will only assist. "Our commandant's office will work there, but everything is ready, there's no need to build anything," Interfax-West quotes Victor Bondarev as he says.

Modified fighter aircrafts Su-27CM3 will be based at the Russian airbase in Lida.

Answering the question whether the Lida airbase will be just Russian, or Russian-Belarusian, Bondarev said: "At first, it will be Russian, and then - we'll see."
