Russian activist remains in detention after explosives joke at Minsk airport

The Transport Prosecutor's Office has rejected the motion from the Investigations Committee to relase the Russian LGBT activist Maria Rymar on bail. The human rights website spring96.org reports the woman was on July 12 transfered to the pretrial jail No 1 in Valadarskaha Street in Minsk.

The Russian activist Maria Rymar was detained on July 7 when passsing security checks for her Minsk-Moscow flight at the Minsk airport. According to her lawyer, she was not happy with personal checks due to beefed up security measures at the time.

The woman had a row with the airport security staff and eventually she joked that TNT was in her bag. She was detained immediately. Maria Rymar is facing charges under Article 340 (1) in the Penal Code of Belarus that deals with deliberate false security report.
