Russia introduces border regime for Belarus

Расія ўводзіць рэжым памежнай зоны на мяжы з Беларуссю

Russia will introduce the border regime for Belarus on February 7. Russian FSB director Alexander Bortnikov has signed the corresponding order (#808 of December 29, 2016).

Moscow has made the decision ‘to provide security at the state border’ and ‘to prevent violations’, TV channel Zvezda reports. It is not clear whether the decision was caused by Belarus’ decision to introduce a 5-day visa-free regime for citizens of 80 states arriving at the National Airport Minsk starting from February 12.

Bortnikov has ordered to install warning signs at the Belarusian border in Smolensk, Pskov and Bryansk Oblasts. See here for the full document.
