Zyanon Paznyak: Kurapaty no symbol of unity (video)
The exiled leader of Conservative Christian Party of Belarusian Popular Front responds to the suggestions from Tell the Truth! and the Movement For Freedom.
These organizations suggested that the
whole opposition should unite to defend Kurapaty. Paznyak replied:
"Victims never unite with executors. The history has witnessed this for 24
years. The offspring of the executed will never unite with the offspring of
those who killed them".
On Tuesday
Kurapaty appeared in the center of a scandal again. A memorial sign in honour
of the executed Polish army officers was installed there on October 29. It
disappeared already on October 30. Historian Ihar Kuznyatsou who was the
initiator of the memorial, described this incident as crime in a comment to
Euroradio.
Paznyak, in his
turn, considers the disappearance of the memorial sign to be a provocation of the KGB,
reports BelSat
TV-channel. However, he does not support Kuznyatsou either.
According to the CCP BPF leader, Kuznyatsou is dealing with a myth, as no
remains of the officers were found in Kurapaty. Paznyak conducted an archaeological excavation in Kurapaty himself, as an
archeologist. The politician says that the KGB is struggling with the memory
about Kurapaty and creates organizations which allegedly deal with the memorial
but in fact try to give their own explanations of the historical events.
