Yarmoshyna promises “liberal parliamentary elections”

The future election in the House of Representatives will be as liberal as the presidential election and much freer than the previous parliamentary elections. Lidziya Yarmoshyna, chairperson of the Central Election Commission, has informed Euroradio about it.

Lidziya Yarmoshyna: “The parliamentary elections will be very different from the previous ones. The things that appeared during the presidential election will be available there: personal funds for candidates, the possibility of debates and applications for mass events. All the liberal approaches will remain, they will not disappear anywhere – they will be used during the parliamentary elections too”.

The CEC chairperson is not ready to predict how active citizens running for the position will be. However, in her opinion there will be a lot of candidates not connected with the executive power, “White Russia” or the BRUY.
Euroradio has wondered whether people will be distracted from running for the position due to the post presidential election events.

Euroradio: “The police have been very active lately. Won’t people be scared? Won’t they think: “Why should I get involved in the election without knowing what to expect later”?

Lidziya Yarmoshyna: “What is wrong with the police?”

Euroradio: “I do not say that something is “wrong” or “right”. I have just said that they are very active…

Lidziya Yarmoshyna: “They are active because they are investigating a crime, they have to do it. It has nothing to do with the elections. Nothing at all!”.

The date of the parliamentary elections has not been appointed yet. However, according to the preliminary information, they have to take place in 2012.
