Professor Shved sacked from Hrodna University

Ph.D. Vyachaslau Shved was fired from the position of the head of the Belarusian culture and regional tourism department last month. The University Council did not choose him to fill in the position of a  professor on April 1 either. The dismissal order was signed by Rector Andrei Karol.

Vyachaslau Shved wrote an open letter to lecturers of Hrodna University after that. He claimed that his dismissal was "a political decision taken out of revenge for his book Hrodna Studies. History of a  European City, Radio Liberty reports.

Associate professor Andrei Charnyakevich, one of the authors of Hrodna Studies, was fired from Hrodna University for political reasons a few months ago. Senior lecturer Ihar Kuzminich quit his work at the university in protest against the political persecution.
