Vladimir Putin grants Russian citizenship to Gérard Depardieu
The Russian President signed a correspondent decree in response to the actor's plea.
According to interfax.by, Putin said at a big press-conference in Moscow on December 20 that a positive reply had been granted to the French actor. "If Gérard wants to have a residence permit in Russia, or a Russian passport, we can state that this issue is solved positively", - the Russian leader said.
Depardieu protests against the planned increase of taxes. The French government plans to implement a 75% tax for the richest citizens. The actor left for Belgium as a protest act - the tax there makes 50% of the income.
