Suspect in Vitsebsk KGB office blast may be jailed for up to 10 years

The woman is 42 years old, she worked at one of the Vitebsk enterprises. She has prior convictions for property damage, vandalism and theft. She lived with her elderly mother, who knew nothing about her daughter's interest in explosives. The suspect was fond of male kinds of sports, and liked to dress in men’s clothes.

Explosive devices were found in her apartment during the search, and records on how to make them. She refused to give any evidence during interrogation.

BelTA reports that on February 18 it was decided to take the woman into custody. A criminal case under part 3 of Article 339 of the Criminal Code of Belarus ("particularly malicious hooliganism") was started against her. She faces up to 10 years of imprisonment.

"All her actions will undergo criminal evaluation ... perhaps she will also be accused of illegal manufacture of improvised explosive devices", - Head of the Investigatory Committee of the Vitebsk region Uladzimir Shalukhin says.

The preliminary investigation is ongoing, working through the version of other people being involved into the case.

The blast happened in the evening on November 11, 2012. Two windows were damaged as a result of the explosion of the "primitive self-made pyrotechnical device". A criminal case has been started for hooliganism. A group of most experienced employees of the Investigatory Committee dealt with this case. More than 400 people were interrogated, more than 300 expertises were appointed.
