Sakharov Prize finalists to be announced, Byalyatski among nominees

The voting on finalists will take place. 3 contenders will be picked.

Human rights defender Ales Byalyatski was sentenced to 4,5 years of imprisonment for tax evasion back in November 2011. Byalyatski claimed innocence saying that all the money which was received on his bank accounts went for the human rights defense activity. The EU, the U.S. and international human rights organization consider Ales Byalyatski a prisoner of conscience and demand that he should be released.
