Policemen ask Iryna Halip to tear her appeal to pieces

A meeting with the political prisoner was organized in the office of BPF as part of the Marathon of Solidarity with Political Prisoners on February 7.

Iryna Halip was sentenced to two years of imprisonment with a 2-year stay of execution for the events of December 19, 2010. The journalist must be home by 10 p.m. every day, visit the police office every week and policemen can conduct a check-up in her flat at any time. Halip is not allowed to leave Minsk.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka has claimed many times that the journalist can leave Belarus but simply does not want to. Iryna Halip has sent an appeal to her inspectorate. She wants to be allowed to visit her husband Andrei Sannikau in London and the editorial office of "Novaya Gazeta" in Moscow (she works there).

She has been waiting for a reply for two weeks already, the journalist told Radio Liberty. Policemen have advised that she tore her appeal to pieces, Halip noted.
