Parts of Rasony idol delivered to Germany

German scientists are helping define the age of the wooden idol found in Rasony District in summer. Let us remind you that Minsk divers and Polatsk archaeologists took out the wooden figure from the River Drysa. It was thought to be one thousand years old. The idol was delivered to the History Institute of the Academy of Sciences and scientists from the Institute for Experimental Botany were going to spend a month trying to define the age of the oak.

However, the assistance of foreign specialists was necessary. Experimental materials have been delivered to Germany by Maxim Yarmohin, dendrochronologist. Volha Lyauko, head of the Pre-Industrial Society History Centre of the History Institute has told Euroradio about it:

“He has delivered the experimental materials to Germany to check them there once more. That is why I do not have any new information. I am waiting for written conclusions”.

Maxim Yarmohin has expressed a hope that German scientists would be able to define the exact age of the idol that may date back to the 9th century.
Maxim Yarmohin: “They may help us define the date. Let’s see what will be done... It may be a modern figure and it may date back to the 9th century... Or earlier. It is somewhere there. However, it is too early to announce the exact date”.
