International Holocaust Remembrance Day marked today

The date of January 27 was chosen because Soviet troops liberated the concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau on this very day. The International Holocaust Remembrance Day was first marked in 2006, but some countries marked it before.

Apart from this, the International Holocaust Remembrance Day is marked on other days in some countries: in Israel - on the date when the rebellion in Warsaw ghetto started (Nisan 27 - between April 7 and May 7), in Latvia - on July 4, in Romania - on November 9.
