Independent journalists detained in Astravets

The journalists were taken to the local Department of the Interior, Anatol Lyabedzka said.

Anatol Lyabedzka: “We have visited the nuclear power plant – there are numerous KGB members, employees of the criminal investigation department and policemen. We tried to enter the territory but the police and security service did not allow it. They did not allow taking pictures either. They only detained journalists. But they said that we would have to give written explanations.”

The politician and local UCP activists are heading for Astarvets police office to demand to release journalists.

The anniversary of Chernobyl tragedy is marked today. Lyabedzka went to Chernobyl zone towns yesterday and has visited Atsravets, the construction site of the first Belarusian NPP, today.
