EP not to consider Belarusian issue on March 12

Vice-speaker of the European Parliament Jacek Protasiewicz has informed about it. According to him, it has been decided to adopt the resolution on Belarus in two weeks – at the session in Brussels. He has noted that the conflict between Belarus and the EU has become so aggravated that there is only one step that needs to be made to sever the relations – to ask Belarusian Ambassadors to the EU to leave for consultations and restrict the diplomatic relations to the level of Minsk-Washington current relations, claimed Protasiewicz in an interview with Radio Liberty.

The scenario should not be excluded, but the EU has decided to give Belarus “time to think, especially to give time to Minsk as Minsk started it all”. Europe does not want to isolate Belarus but it wants to press for the release of political prisoners, says Jacek Protasiewicz.

The Council of the European Union decided to expand the list of Belarusian officials forbidden to enter the EU on February 27. 21 names were added on the list. The Belarusian authorities recommend that the head of the EU Representative Office in Minsk Maira Mora and Polish Ambassador Leszek Szerepka “left for their capitals for consultations to inform their authorities about Belarus’ position of aversion of sanctions and pressure” on February 28. The EU member states withdrew their Ambassadors from Minsk in response to it, reminds BelaPAN.
