EP delegation cancels visit to Belarus

The decision has been taken on February 10, said the chairperson of the EU’s delegation for relations with Belarus Jacek Protasiewicz, informs BelaPAN. "There is no sense in meeting only officials and representatives of the government”, - the Polish Publishing Agency quotes Protasiewicz. Furthermore, the MEP noted that Belarus had made it clear that not all the delegation members would be able to get Belarusian visas. Let us remind you that the European Parliament’s Delegation had been planning to visit Belarus by January 31 to study the conditions in which the Belarusian authorities were keeping former presidential candidates and the other opposition members detained after the presidential election of December 19. MEPs had been planning to meet the families and lawyers of the detained, independent journalists, human rights activists and representatives of the authorities. Photo by: ru.democraticbelarus.eu
