Buckweat of new harvest to cost Br 6700-7000

A week ago, the Ministry of Agriculture increased purchasing prices for buckweat. They will now pay Br 2 900 for a kilo (it used to be 1 726) to the collective farms. In comparison with prices in shops, this is ridiculous. However, buckweat may soon become cheaper exactly due to increase of purchasing prices.

Employees of the enterprise "Shypiany-ASK", located in Smaliavichy district, state that the weather is perfect for buckweat this year. Deputy head for plants growing Siarhei Navitski expresses his surprise why no one wants to grow crops.

Siarhei Navitski : “We can calculate the income, taking into consideration that the purchasing price will be Br 2900 and we will grow three tons on one hectar, and how much barley or millet we should grow to get such money!”

However, Euroradio has found out that there is also the so-called "Dazynki factor". Strong collective farms to not want to grow more buckweat as they do not want to make the indices worse (buckweat gives poorer harvests). As for weak collective farms, the specialist thinks they are not capable of growing normal buckweat.

In Grodna region, buckweat sewing areas have been increased by three times. Deputy head of "Skidelagroproduct" Joseph Eismant says that there will be enough home-grown buckweat for everyone this year.

“We are expecting a good harvest. I think we will provide enough buckweat for everyone this year. It will be cheap. The sale price will make Br 5 200 for a kilo, and then - 30% trade margin”.
