Belarus not in agenda of Council of EU's session today

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the EU states will meet in Luxembourg on June 25. Belarus is not in the agenda of the session.

Let us remind you, on June 19, Gunnar Wiegand, of the EU's European External Action Service, stated there would be further expansion of the European Union's "black list", at the hearings on Belarus in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament. According to him, the sanctions will be expanded until the political prisoners are released.

Gunnar Wiegand: "We see signals but we don't see releases... The release of Sannikau and Bandarenka did not amend the EU's strategy. The ball is not at the EU's side, as someone in Minsk says. It remains at Minsk's side of the field. The EU is not going to make a trade on the political prisoners".

It looks like the Council of the EU does not take another decision on Belarus, hoping for the release of political prisoners under the amnesty dedicated to the Independence Day.
