'REP trade union case' witnesses detained

Міліцыя забрала сведкаў па "справе РЭП", якія заявілі пра ціск на следстве

The police have detained the 'REP case' witnesses who refused from their evidence at the court hearing. The police arrived at their apartments at about 8 a.m. on August 9 in order to bring them to the public prosecutor's office for an interrogation, the website of the REP trade union reports.

The witnesses were not allowed to call a lawyer or ask for help. They only managed to report the arrival of policemen. At least three people have been detained. One of the witnesses refused to open the door and the police said that they would have to break it, some sources report. It is impossible to contact the witnesses now.

Some of the witnesses refused from their evidence during the hearing of the REP trade union case and said that they had experienced pressure during the investigation. The court ruled that the Prosecutor General's Office conduct a check-up to find out whether the witnesses had been put under pressure during the investigation.
