The port of Klaipeda in Lithuania has reported a record cargo turnover. Instead of its predicted reduction of 35%,  it grew 57% in 2022, writes Delfi.

Having lost Belarusian potash fertilizers last year due to sanctions, the port of Klaipeda managed to reorient itself and attract new cargo flows. Now the task is to hold these positions in 2023.

Behind the success was the inclusion of the port into additional sea routes and a 100% discount on tonnage dues for ships carrying cargo for distribution. The end of last year saw the record 1 million TEU (standardized containers) exceeded.

Belarusian state propaganda predicted almost total bankruptcy of the Klaipeda port due to Belarus' refusal to transit potash fertilizers through it. Aliaksandr Lukashenka made similar statements. Belarusian state propagandists currenetly remain silent.
