Polish court to sentence Belarusian after 12 years of trials
This is political prisoner-entrepreneur Andrei Zhukavets who supported the opposition and escaped abroad in 1999.
The Bialystok district court will pronounce the sentence on Zhukavets case on Thursday, October 18. The last hearing took place on September 14, the judge refuse to listen to the witnesses from Belarus. He said that "opposition activists are persecuted in Belarus so such evidence can be false".
The Belarusian side is trying to achieve extradition of Andrei Zhukavets, a criminal case has been opened against him in Belarus. In Poland, the trial against the political immigrant has lasted for the second decade already.
