Picket to defend religious freedoms staged in Minsk

An unauthorized picket took place on June 5 in Minsk in front of the headquarters of the Committee for the Affairs of Religions and Nationalities.

The youth protested against the deportation and arrests of Protestant priests.

"Today we staged a performance devoted to the right to freedom of consciousness in order to defend the rights of Christian believers. It was organized by the Young Christian Democrats. 5 people participated in the performance. A girl dressed in white clothes was holding a poster, saying: "I Believe". The other two actors dressed in black tightened her hands with a rope. Two more people were holding a poster, saying "I have the right to faith", the organizers told the European Radio for Belarus.

No detentions were reported. The Minsk city hall did not authorize the action to take place in the center of the city. They also denied the application for this performance to take place at the Bangalore Square.
