People who lit candles near KGB HQ get fines

The administrative case started against the participants of the action in memory of the victims of Stalin’s repressions held hear the KGB headquarters was considered in Minsk's Maskouski District Court on November 16. The action was held on October 29 – the anniversary of the mass execution of Belarusian intellectuals.

 

Half a dozen people took part in the action. They brought the portraits of writers and doctors repressed in the Soviet time to the KGB building. Then they put candles on the threshold and left. Policemen drew up administrative violation reports against all of them.

Judge Natallya Vaitsehovich accused Maryna Adamovich of participation in an unauthorized action – “the display of a lit candle”. She was fined for 105 roubles (5 base amounts), the human rights website Viasna reports.

Leanid Kulakou and Uladizmir Yaromenka were not present at the trial. They were fined for 1050 roubles each (50 base amounts).
