Painting by Belarus-born artist sold for $17 million

The painting by Belarus-born artist Khaim Sutsin "The Portrait of a Man with Red Scarf" has been sold at Sotheby's for the record-breaking $17 million.

Up to now, the most expensive piece was "Two Sisters" by Renoir, which has now become $4 million less.


Aged 18, the Belarus-born Khaim Sutsin migrated together with his familiy to France in 1912. His niece Ina Ferapontava still lives in his native twon of Smilavichy in the Cherven district.


Even the family house has survived. Sutsin painted his most expensive piece in 1912.
