OSCE starts long-term observation of Belarus presidential election

Long-term OSCE observers will start monitoring presidential elections in Belarus today. About 40 long-term and 400 short-term observers will be included in the election observation mission.

About 800 OSCE and CIS observers will monitor the Belarusian election. There will be fewer foreign observers in comparison with 2010, the Central Election Commission reports. It can be explained by the fact that the parliamentary election will be held in Kyrgyzstan a week before and the parliamentary election in Azerbaijan will be held a week after the Belarusian presidential election. That is why observers will have to join different missions.

There were 500 national observers last week and the number will keep increasing, BELTA reports.
