Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas

Metropolitan of the Orthodox Church if Minsk and Slutsk, Patriarchal exarch of Belarus Filaret has addressed Orthodox Christians with a festive epistle. In particular, he said:

“Christians carry a serious responsibility for the state of their minds and hearts in such a difficult period. We are not only urged to preserve our belief in God, we should also express the depth of our personal trust to the Creator. We should be afraid of the rage of elements, superstition and irrational fear, - we should live fearlessly and be evidence of our God Jesus Christ as the Saviour of the world”.

A member of higher orders of clergy Filaret recalled a famous Belarusian Prince Kanstantsin Astrozhski in this festive epistle and called him a “devoted son of the Orthodox Church and a real hero of our Motherland”.

“We have to give Kanstantsin Astrozhski his due in the coming year, the due of eternal memory and gratitude, because it has been 4 centuries since he passed away”, - is said in the epistle. Metropolitan Filaret wished a Merry Christmas to “all Belarusian Christians and all Belarusians living beyond the Belarusian land”.
