Organizers of European march propose dialogue to Belarusian authorities

The date of the European march “For Freedom” has been announced. It will take place in Minsk on October 14. The march will start at Kastrychnistkaya Square and end near the National Library. The international coordinator of “Charter-97” Amdrei Sannikau explains the aims of the march to ERB:

“We would like to stress that we support suggestions of the European Union. On the whole, we would like to announce that we support development of Belarus in the European direction. It is evident that no games with Moscow, Teheran or Karakas could help Belarus.

We should restore our relations with Europeans and make them more effective. We need to change the current situation in Belarus for it”.

Unlike participants of many other actions of the opposition, the organizers of the “European march” offer the Belarusian authorities a dialogue.

Sannikau thinks that “independent ideas are floating among officials now” because officials “feel the necessity of changes and economic reforms”. But  he thinks that the changes cannot be started if the current situation remains the same.

Organizers of the European March “For Freedom” have already sent an appeal for permission to conduct the action to Minsk City Executive Committee.

Soon it will be clear whether the authorities are willing to cooperate with democratic forces who decided to start the march at Kastrychnitskaya Square.

Andrei Sannіkau says: “The problem is not Kastrychnitskaya Square itself. The problem is their general attitude to peaceful actions”.

If they demonstrate aggressiveness again it will testify to the fact that they lie when they speak about their interest in cooperation with Europe”.

Let us remind you that the action was supported by all major democratic political parties and organizations. A special parley group has been created for conducting negotiations with the authorities.
