Opposition leader in Shklou gets 5 years in prison for alleged office abuse

Alyaksandr Fyodarau, the head of the local branch of the Party of the Belarusian Popular Front in Shklou, has been sentenced to five years in a high-security prison. His property has also been confiscated. In addition, a local court ruled that the oppositionist has to pay Br15,5 million to the state in damages. Fyodarau was found guilty of office abuse, the party leader Vintsuk Vyachorka told the European Radio for Belarus.
“It is a very complicated case. He was in charge of several heating stations. He was always credited with confidence. He was accused of employing gost workers. If it is true, it could not happen without the knowledge of his bosses", Vyachorka said.

Fyodarau will appeal the ruling within ten days.
