The Central Election Commission (CEC) on Monday morning announced the preliminary results of the August 9 presidential elections.

Aliaksandr Lukashenka has gathered 80.23% of votes, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya — 9.9%. Andrei Dzmitryeu has received 1.04%, Hanna Kanapackaja — 1.68%, Siarhei Cherachen — 1.13%. 6.02% voted against all, with the turnout at 84.23%, according to CEC.

During the 8-minute-long press conference on August 10, CEC chairwoman Lidziya Yarmoshyna said the election was held in 'unprecedented conditions" as she had to be evacuated from the House of the Government at 1 a.m.

Clashes broke out in cities across Belarus on Sunday evening as riot police used rubber bullets, flash grenades, teargas and water cannon to quash protests against the results of the contested presidential election.

The Investigation Committee says it has opened a criminal case in connection with mass riots and violence against the riot police.
