More than hundred unauthorized pickets take place in Belarus

Pickets organized by democratic activists and organizations took place in Belarus on December 16. Only one person was detained and he was released after the protocol had been drawn up.
Let us remind you that the authorities refused about 800 appeals for social pickets and allowed actions only in Mahileu and Orsha.

A participant of the picket in Mahileu, deputy head of the Belarusian Communist Party Valery Uhnalyou described it to ERB:

“There were a lot of police watching us and they did not let the picket begin even a minute earlier than 2 p.m. as it had been allowed”.

According to Uhnalyou, the action took place in a deserted area near the House of Culture of the “Himvalakno” plant that is why only 50 people approached the picket’s participants during one hour.

More than 40 pickets took place in Hrodna on Sunday. The same amount of pickets was registered in Brest. Pickets took place in Minsk, Orsha and Talachyn District. Syarhei Abrazouski, head of Minsk Regional affiliate of the CPB was detained. Valery Uhnalyou described the detention:

“They were conducting an unauthorized picket with transparencies in the village of Dryzhny, Puhavichy District. A lot of people gathered there. That is because they combined the picket against the cancellation of social benefits with a protest against the construction of a chemicals plant.”
