Monument to Holocaust victims unveiled in Vitsebsk (photo)
Nearly 10000 Jews were executed in 1941 near the township of Toluv in the outskirts of Vitsebsk. On June 26, the victims of executions were finally commemorated when a memorial sign was unveiled at the site. Part of the money for the monument was allocated by the government, while the remaining funds were raised by pivate donnations from Belarus and various parts of the world. It took three years to collect enough money for the memorial. The monument, authored by sculptors Valery Mogychy and architect Valery Sharonov, depicts a female figure which is as if shot through by a David star. Tulov Yar is the site where the bigget number of Jews from the Vitsebsk Ghetto were executed.
