Monument of architecture burns down in Hrodna

A hundred-year-old building burnt down in Hrodna yesterday evening. Firemen did not even manage to arrive in time.
The building took fire instantly.

According to a Hrodna historian Ihar Lapeha, it took firemen half an hour to arrive on the spot. They did not manage to save the building.

The house served as a kindergarten in the Soviet time. Then its condition started worsening and the authorities decided to auction it.

The City Executive Committee failed to find an investor because the building was in a protected area – it means that the building’s outlook should have been preserved even after a reconstruction.

It was not allowed to attach offices to the building.
